Followers of fashion have witnessed some pretty outrageous looks emerge in 2010 but a couple of the largest stories to make it towards the street are distressed jeans and thigh boots (not really together!).
These backpacks are not for your faint-hearted, but when you will find the confidence to give them a try this is a breakdown of both looks and the ways to make sure they are work for you.
Distressed jeans
Love or loathe them, distressed jeans continue to be big news. After Balmain's sellout spring/summer collection took the fashion world by storm the style appears to be sticking to us not less than another season. Stars sporting this trend include Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Rachel Bilson, SJP, Ashley Olsen and Kate Bosworth. There are lots of solutions to put them on if you have the confidence, so here are some tips through the Models Direct office:
Do:
o Keep body skinny and low rise o Pair your faded jeans having a vintage rock chick vest/t-shirt o Add a leather biker jacket, military jacket, or polish the design with a crisp cut blazer o Dress up your look and earn it dancefloor-appropriate with ankle boots, studded/embellished high heel pumps or strappy platforms o Bunch the jeans up in the ankle or roll the hem to show off your footwear o Accessorise with studded or spiked jewellery
Don't:
o Be afraid of straps, skulls, ruffles and studs... the more the greater! o Pair with florals or fussy prints o Pair with feminine blouses
Over-the-knee boots
Thigh boots are back to the bold! After featuring heavily on the catwalk this season, thigh boots are being hailed since the ultimate autumn/winter 2009 'must have' for the brave fashionista.
These risque boots come having a specific amount of implied eroticism attached and that means you should put some thought into how we use them. Here are a handful of tips that might help:
o Stay away from patent and opt for natural-looking materials like suede or genuine leather. o Go for muted shades of grey, brown as well as cream. o You don't have to wear this look which has a stiletto heel - try some flats or opt for wedges. o Match your tights in your boots or tuck in skinny jeans or leggings that complement the colour to get a leggier 'look'. o Tone down the rest of your outfit.
To achieve moleskin jeans , wear the tallest boots you already own, with over-the-knee socks layered over dark tights.
If you are feeling really brave they even make both looks together, as seen recently on Ciara and Kate Hudson.
